WHAT IS THE BLOCK KIDS BUILDING PROGRAM? |
Block Kids is a national building competition for children in 1st through 6th grade that introduces them to construction careers. Each child is given 100 blocks and the choice of 3 other items (a small rock, string, foil, and poster board). They have one hour to use their imagination in constructing a structure or project that is construction related. This award-winning national competition is a one-morning event held each year in the beginning of November. Three winners are selected for each grade and three overall winners are selected. Our overall local winner's design advances to the NAWIC regional competition, and one semi-finalist from each region is entered in the National program competition. Local and National prizes are awarded to the top three projects. |
WHAT TO EXPECT? |
Participants have one hour to create something construction related without adult help or guidance using approved materials. Once complete, the student will meet with a judge or judges who will rate the project and ask the student a series of questions. Local trades will have interactive activities setup outside the contest area for the students to play and investigate construction activities. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt and goodie bag!
